INTERVIEW WITH GUEST AUTHOR , KC LAU

1.James : When did you begin to write?

My first blog post dated back to Dec 2006.

2.James : When did you first discover that you were a writer?

I was just trying to share some information with friends and clients at that time. But eventually people are more interested in the content I write, and not my grammar accuracy.

3.James : How much did you write before you were published?

My first physical book was published in 2008, called Top Money Tips for Malaysians. I probably wrote about 100 blog posts before I landed the first book publishing deal.

4.James : What is your favourite part of writing?

To be able to share valuable and life-changing information with the readers.

5.James : Tell us about your latest release?

The latest book is an ebook which I give away as free download to whoever wants to get that information about making more money, saving more efficiently and retire early in Malaysia. You can find it here: http://kclau.com/lp/ebook

6.James : Wow! This book sounds really good. Are you planning on writing more in the years to come?

That’s Volume 1. I actually planned to have a series of Money Tips ebook. Volume 2 is also done, and being distributed to my email subscribers. I will be working on Volume 3 soon.

7.James : So far what is your worst criticism/attacks, and how have you overcome it?

When you have many followers, you will also attract a few haters at the same time. I’ve encountered just a few haters who subscribed to my e-mailing list, and reply with cocky statements and nonsense, and claim that they are so great that all I am teaching is rubbish.
At first, I took it seriously by responding to them. But over the years, I’ve learnt that the only way to annoy these haters is to ignore them. I would rather spend the time to serve my fans who appreciate my effort and deserve more of my attention.

8.James : What is the accomplishment that you are most proud of?

To be able to provide financial education to those who love to learn, conveniently and cost-effectively.

9.James : What does your writing process look like?

First, I’ll come up with a mindmap of the content. Then I will write whatever comes up in my mind. The next step will be thinking of stories and examples to strengthen the points. And I will proofread before publishing it.

10.James :  How did you get published?

I came up with a draft of about 50 pages. Then I send this draft to a relevant publisher who publishes books on financial topics. Luckily, the first publisher I approached came back with a positive response. Then I am required to complete the manuscript. The rest of the publishing process like editing, layout, printing, distribution are all handled by my publisher.

11.James : How do you come up with the title of your book?

I brainstorm a few suggestion and the publisher pick the one they think is the best.

12.James : Can you enlighten us a little more about your books?

In the latest physical books, I’ve included a lot of comics. The writing is even simpler and more direct tone because I think books should be made easy and fun to read to benefit most people.

13.James: Tell us your guiding principle that governs your life?

Life is short. Be happy and work on your strength and passion.

14.James : How have you cultivated these values?

I think just being true to myself, know my strengths and enjoy the process.

15.James : Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?

Start with a blog. It instantly provide you feedback because you will know if people are interested in what you write. A blog documents your writing. Most people think that authoring a books is a daunting job. But it isn’t when you break it into small chunks, like a blog post a day!
